Up here in Northern California, spring is in full swing. Even though it is only February, the daffodils are in bloom, tree branches are heavy with pink and yellow blossoms, and grass on the surrounding hills is bright green. Everything is teeming with life. The sun frequently comes out to spread its warmth, and the days are getting longer. This is one of my favorite seasons. The process of renewal lifts my spirits!

I am starting my celebration of spring early with two new designs:

I captured this moment between two hummingbirds in my own backyard. They built their nest in a small tree where they like to return every year. I was able to get close enough to get this shot without being detected.
Hummingbirds are amazing creatures to me, and I am most pleased to be able to enjoy this moment for years to come. I am looking forward to their return.

For the photograph of this flower I wanted to try something different. I had visited an exhibit of Andy Warhol's work not too long before, and decided to try something in that iconic style he used for Marilyn Monroe, Liza Minnelli, and many others including himself! The result is this bright and cheery design that will chase the winter blahs away!

Both if these designs are available on a wide selection of products such as cards, mousepads, mugs, stamps, etc. They can be customized to your liking with text, different sizes, styles and shapes as applicable. I will be adding more spring products soon, so stay tuned!

View of the Ocean

One of my favorite places in California is the coast near Monterey. Last month my family and I spent a weekend there, and on one of the days we took a trip down the 17-Mile Drive. You have to pay a small fee to take the drive, but this scenic road takes you by so many beautiful places (not to mention the Pebble Beach golf course and huge exclusive mansions!), it's certainly worth the money! We stopped at several view points along the way, one of which brought us to the Lone Cypress. It is probably the most famous tree in Monterey County!

The light conditions were perfect for moody, hazy photographs. The light of the sun was filtered and kept it from being too bright. Fortunately, it was not very cold! The sound of the waves crashing on the shore contributed to a feeling of peace. There is nothing like it!

I have added three of my favorite photos to my Zazzle store. All are available on the usual selection of products and can be customized according to your wishes. Get all three as a complete set!

Knitting Is My Thing

Besides photographing everything I see and creating digital images, I also like to knit. Knitting is my Zen, my meditation. The feel of the smooth bamboo between my fingers, the ticking of the needles as I knit a stitch, the softness of the yarn, the satisfaction of seeing a project progress...there's nothing like it.

In the past week I added some designs that reflect my love of knitting. The first one features a Fair Isle motif. Fair Isle is a knitting technique named after an island off the coast of northern Scotland. You can read more about it at Wikipedia. I knit the Fair Isle sweater with Lopi yarn (from Iceland) several years ago, and it is one of my favorites.

Then, I decided to add something fun! Last year, for a photography class assignment, I was taking pictures of objects around the house. I wondered into my son's bedroom to see what I could photograph, when I noticed the googly eyes on one of his toys. I took a close-up shot. Don't they remind you of the Geico eyes? Too bad they didn't come with a stack of money!
